Based in our woodland glen or cosy barn on the Priory Farm Estate in South Nutfield, Surrey

The Salt Box is a celebration of seasonal food and open-fire cookery through the coming together of people beneath the trees, creating delicious food from nature’s humble ingredients. We celebrate locally sourced and wild ingredients through our wide range of courses and dining events, in the great outdoors surrounded by crackling fires.

The Salt Box is currently closed for face-to-face events, in line with National Lockdown. Following the recent government announcement, we can’t wait to be able to reconnect with you all and rekindle our fires here later this Spring.

We’re taking our Cooking Over Fire course online so you can learn to cook over the flames with us, in the comfort of your own home.

On our online Cooking Over Fire course, you’ll learn the art of cooking with fire and smoke in a relaxed and informative environment, as we guide you through a series of techniques and methods. 
Reconnect with ancient open-fire cookery techniques, with ingredients inspired by the seasons to create a delicious feast.

We enjoy collaborating with local businesses to bring you woodland feasts alongside natural arts, crafts, floristry and woodlore workshops. Seasonally inspired, The Salt Box run courses in our barn and woodland glen.

Wild Game Butchery

Our seasonal game butchery and cookery courses are perfect for people who love the distinctive flavours of these wild meats, but are unsure how to cook with them. We offer seasonal evening, half day and full day courses.

Breakfast in the Woods
The wild venison butchering day was excellent. Totally absorbing and fascinating. Learning where your meat comes from is so important and makes you appreciate what's involved in all the preparation. Friendly atmosphere and lovely setting for the day - full belly by end of the day too with all the cooked venison! Just brilliant.
