Willow Weaving & Woodland Feast – Family Workshop

Join us in the woods for an exciting collaboration with Lorraine from Hedges and Hurdles!

 

Spend a morning beneath the trees learning how to use natural materials and learn how to weave either a Mini-Obelisk or a Bird Feeder to take home for your garden.

For this workshop, we will be using Willow harvested in the spring from the lakesides at the Priory Farm Estates. Once harvested the Willow is first bundled, dried and stored ready to be rehydrated by soaking in the lake several days before use.

The technique used to create both a Mini-Obelisk and Bird Feeder is similar, so you’ll have the choice on the day. For younger children, you could also weave willow fish. We will be working from a table top, using a ‘jig’ to support the Willow upright whilst we weave.

 

Before we start the workshop, Christian from The Salt Box will teach you the art of lighting a fire in the great outdoors, sparking the flames upon which we’ll cook your lunch on!

 

Following the workshop, we’ll sit down at our shared dining table beneath the trees for a delicious 2-course feast, cooked over an open-fire and inspired by seasonal, local ingredients.

  • We will have limited capability to cater for dietary requirements without advance warning, due to the set menu nature of the event, so please let us know about anything relevant prior to booking your tickets. 
  • The menu is subject to change.
  • It’s quite the adventure getting to us, you will be required to walk 5-10 minutes (with a little bit uphill) through the woods to get to us.
  • Please ensure to wear suitable outdoor clothing and sensible shoes.
  • This is a rustic woodland setting, therefore please note that toilet facilities are located a 5-10 minute walk away.
