We are taking a walk on the wild side and would love you to join us, as we introduce you to the hidden delights of nature’s larder this Spring at our Foraging Walk and Woodland Feast events.

Our passion for wild ingredients inspires many of our menus. When done carefully and sustainably, foraging is a great way of connecting with our natural environment and making the most of the ingredients on our doorstep. You can’t get more local than your nearest hedgerow!

Here on the Priory Farm Estate in South Nutfield (where The Salt Box is located), we are lucky to have a wide variety of edible delights. We’ll start the day with a wild tea, before we head on a walk through fields, woodlands and along tracks, with a syllabus built around what is not just seasonally available, but delicious too!

The walk will be led by experienced forager and chef, Lucas, who joined The Salt Box team in Autumn 2019. Lucas will guide you through the identification of common and safe edible wild plants, whilst also touching on the identification of common toxic or dangerous species. As well as covering how to keep foraging safe and sustainable, the focus will be on how you can use wild food in your cooking, including recipe ideas and tips on including wild ingredients in your home kitchen.

Our foraging walk will be followed by a woodland cookery demonstration and woodland feast, prepared in our open-fire kitchen and making use of many of the wild ingredients we have gathered along the way.

We are hosting a lunch and dinner event, if you are joining us for the evening event, the foraging walk will be followed by a wild cocktail workshop. You’ll join Beckie as she teaches you how to make two delicious wildly inspired cocktails to enjoy around the crackling fire!
