Join us in the woods for a wildly and creatively inspired day celebrating the wonders of the great outdoors.
We will be welcoming local artist Emily Chilvers, who will introduce you to the world of coiled basketry, a technique typically known as the ‘foragers’ style, an ancient and versatile technique that is used worldwide with the materials adapting to the native area.
We will take a short walk through the woodland to forage for our own material to incorporate into our baskets, making the connection with the landscape we share together. Combined with a range of natural and coloured raffia and twine, Emily will then show you how to produce different textures and patterns into your weaving to create a small mat or basket.
The workshop will be followed by a wildly inspired picnic, prepared by our team from the finest locally and seasonally inspired produce and enjoyed beneath the trees in our woodland glen, along with a cup or two of foraged herbal teas.
As part of the day, we will also take a slow-paced meander through fields and woodlands, exploring edible wild ingredients built around what is not just seasonally available, but delicious too – perfect to pop in your freshly made baskets!
You will also be provided with a starter kit containing enough material to continue weaving at home as the addictive rhythm of the weave draws you in!
If you would like to bring any extra materials to weave with (such as wool/fabric offcuts/plastic bags/natural materials) please feel free.
