We are taking a walk on the wild side and would love you to join us, as we introduce you and your family to the hidden delights of nature’s larder this Autumn at our first Family Foraging Walk and Wild Picnic.
Our passion for wild ingredients inspires many of our menus. When done carefully and sustainably, foraging is a great way of connecting with our natural environment and making the most of the ingredients on our doorstep. You can’t get more local than your nearest hedgerow!
Here on the Priory Farm Estate in South Nutfield (where The Salt Box is located), we are lucky to have a wide variety of edible delights. We’ll start the day with a wild tea in our cosy barn, before we head on a walk through fields, woodlands and along tracks, with a syllabus built around what is not just seasonally available, but delicious too!
Walking at a gentle pace upon a variety of terrains, the walk will be led by experienced forager and forest school leader, Fern Freud from ‘Foraged by Fern’. Fern will guide us through tips on harvesting, correct identification and possible look-alikes. As well as covering how to keep foraging safe and sustainable, the focus will be on how you can use wild food in your cooking, including recipe ideas and tips on including wild ingredients in your home kitchen.
Our foraging walk will be followed by a wildly inspired picnic lunch – utilising wild and foraged ingredients picked from the estate.
After our feast, join Christian for a fire-lighting workshop, learning how to light your very own flames using a traditional flint-and-steele method.
This event is suitable for children aged 5+. A maximum of 2 children per adult.
TBT (To be Tasty)
Our menus are best suited for flexible, adventurous eaters with a strong focus on seasonally and locally inspired ingredients, including wild and foraged foods sourced from nature’s larder.
Due to the nature of our events and in order to uphold high-quality standards we are only able to accommodate limited dietary requests at our dining events and cookery courses. Our dining events are intimate affairs with small groups, centred around a set menu lovingly prepared in our remote woodland kitchen by our small kitchen team, therefore preparing a separate menu to cater for dietary needs is not always possible.
Dietary needs must always have been communicated and approved prior to booking your seat at our table, and must be advised to our team no later than 7 days prior to the event.
This event is suitable for children aged 5+.
A maximum of 2 children per adult.
If you have any dietary requirements, please be sure to check our policy, and get in touch prior to booking your seats.
If an event is showing as fully booked, please add your name to our Waiting List, and we’ll be sure to get in touch if any further tickets are made available.
