Take a walk on the wild side, as we introduce you to the hidden delights of nature’s spring larder. When done carefully and sustainably, foraging is a great way of connecting with our natural environment and making the most of the ingredients on our doorstep. You can’t get more local than your nearest hedgerow!
We’ll start the day with a wild tea, before we head on a walk through fields, woodlands and along tracks, with a syllabus built around what is not just seasonally available, but delicious too!
Walking at a gentle pace upon a variety of terrains, we will guide you through tips on harvesting, correct identification and possible look-alikes. As well as covering how to keep foraging safe and sustainable, the focus will be on how you can use wild food in your cooking, including recipe ideas and tips on including wild ingredients in your home kitchen.
A soft and gentle start to the Spring season, after our walk we’ll settle down for a slow and mindful botanical drawing workshop led by Ellie from Surrey Art School, featuring ingredients gathered in our foraging baskets.
Working with soft pencil technique and liquid pencil, we’ll learn how to layer beautiful graphite to capture and keep the tones and textures of the Spring season.
Our passion for wild ingredients inspires all of our menus here at The Salt Box. Following the workshop, we’ll sit down for a wildly inspired seasonal picnic feast.
