COVID-19

In these uncertain times, please see below for all our updates on the Coronavirus outbreak.

Friday 15th May 2020

As lockdown life continues, we are ever so grateful to be based here in the Surrey Hills, surrounded by woodlands, fields and incredible wildlife bursting into full force as the sun continues to shine down on us.

More than ever, we are all spending more time both outdoors and in the kitchen, and less time fulfilling obligation after obligation. To put it simply – our all time favourite combination!

The perfect opportunity to scroll less and stroll more.

And whilst we have sorely missed being unable to host our feasts over fire beneath the trees, so many of you have been taking the time to explore your local hedgerows and fields, foraging for ingredients to enjoy at home.

The power of nature for both our health and wellbeing is more valuable than ever.

It’s also been a wonderful time to truly appreciate locally sourced and seasonal ingredients – a stark reminder that our world just cannot supply us with infinite resources, 365 days of the day. Taking the time to choose wisely and invest in your local community, such as discovering your neighbourhood bakery, coffee roasters or fruit and veg growers – there has never been a better time to support local.

We will be closed until July, at the earliest.

We are missing the power of physical presence, human connection and face-to-face conversation. But we know we need to sit tight a little longer.

As much as we would love to be able to feast with you all in the woods, we are not permitted to at the moment. Furthermore, we just don’t feel it will be responsible to do so until we are absolutely sure it’s safe. We have a duty to protect not just our staff’s health and wellbeing, but all of our customers, producers and the wider community here on the Priory Farm Estate. Your safety is our top priority.

If you were due to join us this May / June…

We are working hard to reschedule all feasts and courses planned for these months. We will be reviewing the ongoing situation with regards to July, keeping you posted as soon as we have any news.

If you were booked to join us in the next few months, please check our inbox for what happens next with regards to your seat at our table. We have issued vouchers for the full value of the booking, with an additional 10% extra as a little thank you for sticking by us. Once we are able to safely reschedule the event, we’ll be in touch to advise on new dates.

Staying connected and online courses

We’ll be continuing to share the sights and sounds of our fires and forages on our social media feeds, and emailing out recipes and tutorials where we can – we do hope you enjoy them.

Having succumbed to the fact this period is due to continue for a little longer than originally anticipated, we are beavering away to bring you a small selection of online tutorials. We’ll be reaching out to a number of you for some feedback over the coming days, releasing further information in the next week.

This is an unsettling time for us all, but we take comfort in knowing that gathering together over a delicious meal is core to human experience. We’re confident that the pandemic will drive positive change in so many areas of our day-to-day lives.

Our continued heartfelt thank you for your continued support.

Take care, stay safe and look forward to seeing you all soon!

Tuesday 31st March 2020

With so many you getting in touch to find out what the latest status is with events and courses here at The Salt Box, please read on for our latest update.

Firstly, we hope you, your family and your friends are keeping well.

Whilst communities around the world tackle the ongoing pandemic, it’s no longer possible for us to gather with you around our shared dining tables in the great outdoors. We don’t know about you, but we’re most definitely missing it.

Last week, the government made the decision to understandably shut down our business with immediate effect. Each passing day brings new developments, but for the time being, there is no more business as usual.

All of our public and private events due to take place up until the 30th April, have been postponed until further notice.

Those who are due to join us at an event in the coming month, will receive an email from us advising next steps. We are offering vouchers for the full value of the booking, with an additional 10% extra as a little thank you for sticking by us. This is eligible towards all future events and cookery courses with us, and valid for 18 months.  We very much hope to move your booking to a future event with us, so please do bear with us during this difficult time for us all.

As you will no doubt understand, the hospitality industry is facing unprecedented challenges – as are so many businesses and individuals. We will incur some major losses over the coming period, but we are confident we will return stronger than ever and can’t wait to reconnect with you.

We’re calling this a brief ‘hibernation’. We know that further change is coming and we’re doing our best to work towards being ready. Salt Box HQ is buzzing with new recipe and event ideas, which we’ll be beavering away on over the coming weeks. As our gates are sadly now closed, we will also be keeping our fingers crossed we are able to access the government support and investment to secure the future of our small business.

We have taken the decision not to offer a food delivery service for a number of reasons, but there are plenty of local businesses offering delicious meals here in Surrey. We are so proud of how our local community and fellow small businesses are adapting to the new norm.

This is a challenging time, but we take comfort in knowing that gathering together over a delicious meal is core to human experience.

Please accept our heartfelt thank you for your continued support. Rest assured that when this global outbreak recedes, we will be welcoming you around our fires for a feast in the near future.

If you’d like to support us, one thing you can do is pay it forward and purchase one of our Gift Vouchers. They are now valid for 18 months, against any of our dining events or courses, and are available via email or as a printed voucher.

Our hearts and thoughts really do go out to the people who have been affected by this unprecedented event and we appreciate all the hard work that our healthcare workers and local communities around the world on the front line are doing to contain this virus.

We will continue to monitor the ever-changing situation closely, and will provide any further updates here and through our social media channels. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us on beckie@wearethesaltbox.co.uk.

Take care, stay safe and look after each other in the coming weeks,

Beckie and Christian x
